Replacement shocks and struts may be different lengths than the OE units. In some instances, a unit may be longer than the vehicle manufacturer’s, and in other cases, the replacement unit may include a performance improvement. Some of the reasons for this include protecting the unit from potential damage caused by the unit’s full extension and reducing the risk of vehicle roll-overs.

Some KYB shocks include an improved internal bumper stop to cushion extreme movements. This may change the total length before installation; however, the function will be correct when installed on the vehicle.

Due to length differences between OE and aftermarket units, it may be necessary on some installations to raise the axle or suspension slightly to attach the shock mountings. This is also common on many OE components.
