Ride Comfort vs Safety

Should I choose shocks for comfort or shocks for safety?

There’s no need to choose - you can choose shocks and struts that provide both comfort and safety. The majority of the replacement shocks KYB sells are designed to restore the ride, control, and handling your vehicle had when new. That means optimum ride comfort and the safe operating behavior your car was designed to deliver. The KYB lines designed to restore that new-car ride, comfort, and control include our Excel-G, Strut-Plus, and Gas-a-Just (if the vehicle came with monotube shocks).

With that said, you can also choose KYB shocks or struts that deliver increased steering response and a firmer ride. That doesn’t mean you’re getting more safety. Rather, you’re getting shocks and struts that make it easier to handle towing, heavy loads, off-road driving, or larger wheel and tire packages. The KYB lines designed to provide more control, sportier steering response, and a firmer ride include Gas-a-Just, MonoMax, Truck-Plus, and the KYB Performance Series.

If you’re experiencing an uncomfortable ride or poor handling, new, high-quality shocks should improve both safety and comfort. If you’re choosing KYB shocks or struts, you only need to decide whether to choose shocks that restore the ride, control, and handling your vehicle had when new, or to choose shocks that add more control, increased steering response, and a firmer ride.
