Always use the new nut supplied
The original mounting stud nut may not thread correctly or may damage the new shock or strut upper mounting stud threads. The threads in a nut also stretch when tightened, so the old nut will not have the holding strength of a new one. When a threaded nut is included with the shock or strut, use the new nut and never reuse the old one.
