KYB: This Is Why We Do It

How do you know when you need new shocks? Vehicle owners often do not know if shocks and struts are worn since it happens gradually over time.

KYB and 3 people who have daily driven vehicles with worn suspension components find out if their vehicles will benefit from new KYB parts. To establish a baseline, a road test was done to find out how worn suspension parts performed. The road test was completed using the techniques from the KYB 3 Minute Mile. Then the new KYB shocks, struts, Strut-Plus and mounts were installed and another road test was done. The driver reactions and performance of the vehicles speak for themselves!

KYB Performance Test: ABS Activity

The team from KYB breaks down more data from their Performance Test.

This time they’re looking at the ABS activation and how traction is affected by worn OEM shocks and new KYB shocks. The new KYB shocks are more efficient at braking and decrease the amount of time needed to brake, resulting in a safer and quicker stop.

KYB Performance Test: Why You Should Maintain Your Shocks

The team from KYB breaks down the results from the Performance Test and what it means in the real world.

As older vehicles hold their value and people hang onto them longer, is replacing the shocks worth it? Do worn or cheap shocks and struts make a vehicle less safe? How dangerous is driving with bad shocks and struts? Read more about what worn shocks do.

Does putting the correct, OE replacement parts to restore designed vehicle control make sense on a vehicle with high mileage?

The team believes any vehicle, especially with an inexperienced driver at the wheel, deserves to have the designed vehicle control that came from the factory.

As mentioned in this Brake & Front End article, “New shocks and struts will not improve ride quality or comfort, in most cases. New shocks and struts will improve the handling and confidence of the driver. It will also make the ABS and stability control systems perform as the OEM intended.”

KYB Performance Test: Data Analysis

The team from KYB breaks down the data from their Performance Test.

What can we learn from a dedicated shocks test? Will the way a vehicle brakes help you tell if shocks or struts are bad? Does too much acceleration squat, body roll or nose dive mean shocks or struts need replacing?

KYB Performance Test

KYB takes to the test track and beyond to evaluate new and worn shock performance with professional test drivers.

On the road and test track, professional drivers equipped with data acquisition equipment run identical SUVs through their paces. The only difference between the vehicles was the shocks and struts.
